Strobe

Strobe is yet another very handy
application, delivered by by Offscreen Technologies for the symbian fifth edition platform. If BrightLight bought torch light feature to our 5800, Strobe now brings Stroboscopic lamp features to 5800. In case you didn’t know what Stroboscopic lamps or Strobes are: its a device that can produce regular flashes of light which are most commonly seen in clubs and alarm systems and are great for SOS signalling.  So you may want this application on your 5800 for your next hiking trip. While we definitely wish you don’t need to resort to SOS signalling, we want you to “be prepared”, if the need arise.

Installation

Strobe v1.0 is one of the new applications to have surfaced in the recent overhaul of  ovi store and can be downloaded for free the Ovi client. At around300 kb, its one of the thriftiest packages, meaning download and installation is simple and fast. After installation, the
application takes up around 425 kb, just in case you were worrying about applications hogging precious memory space on your 5800. Features

Strobe is a minimalistic
application sticking to doing what its meant to and it does that in style. As with other apps/games from Offscr
Technologies, the interface of
Strobe is devoid of fancy options and is a delight to use with its intuitive design. It basically has just one screen with a movable switch which controls the flashing frequency: the lowermost being off position and the uppermost reducing the
strobe to a
torch light. Simple but yet elegant and very much functional.

Pros

  1. Intuitive and easy-to-use
  2. Customizable flashing frequency

Cons

Again none that I can think of (Please and I repeat please let me know if you come across any)

Verdict

Offscreen
Technologies are making a habit of coming up with awesome applications/games for the symbian
fifth edition platform. With support from companies like these symbian
fifth edition platform can realise its full potential and prove to the tech world that its as good as Android and iPhone platforms, if not any better.
Strobe is one of the best free applications I have reviewed so far and definitely a must have on your 5800. By the way if you are running short on memory, I would suggest to just install
Strobe on your 5800 as it can function as both a
strobe lamp and a torch and hence you can un-install Bright Light (if you have installed it) to free some much needed memory space.
